MBA Newslink; MBA Donates “Princess Mackie Buys a House” Books to Nonprofit Event
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 18, 2024) – The Mortgage Bankers Association donated copies of Princess Mackie Buys a House to an event hosted by the Momentum Collective Inc., and the Alexandria, Va., Department of Recreation, as part of an initiative to encourage summer reading.
The Momentum Collective’s mission is what it has dubbed “E3”–to “use the arts as a conduit to Educate, Enrich and ultimately Empower the lives of youth.” The nonprofit primarily works with low- and moderate-income youth between 6-18 in the Alexandria area.
The Momentum Collective hosted full-length productions of Matilda, the Musical, on June 13 and June 14, coinciding with the end of the Alexandria City Public School’s school year. As part of that event, volunteers from another nonprofit–Heroes for Heroes–worked to pass out books to students to encourage summer reading.
Among those offerings was Princess Mackie Buys a House, by Twala Lockett-Jones. Through Princess Mackie’s adventures, readers learn valuable concepts such as building generational wealth, saving, budgeting and goal setting. It exposes young readers to the benefits and process of homeownership.
“MBA is delighted to support the Momentum Collective Inc., in partnership with the Alexandria Department of Recreation showcase and book drive. By donating copies of Princess Mackie Buys a House, we aim to empower the next generation of homebuyers with the knowledge and inspiration to achieve the dream of homeownership,” said Amber Lawrence, MBA Associate Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
