State Licensing Resource
MBA is pleased to provide a state-by-state compilation of commercial/multifamily mortgage licensing requirements as a member-only benefit. It was last updated October 2022. This state-by-state resource describes relevant state licensing requirements, along with links to applicable statutes and state regulator resources and contacts, covering the following:
- Commercial mortgage banking licensing requirements. First launched in 2015, this resource has been accessed by hundreds of MBA members.
- Commercial mortgage servicing licensing requirements. In an expansion of the resource first launched in January 2018, it now also covers state licensing requirements for commercial mortgage servicing activities.
The general information in this resource was derived from state government websites, information from state licensing officials, and statutory language. The scope is limited to state-level licensing requirements. Other applicable business or mortgage licensing requirements, including from county, municipal, or other jurisdictions generally were not examined. The resource does not provide legal guidance, but we hope it provides a useful resource for MBA members who would benefit from a greater understanding of the mortgage licensing law framework for various states.
While the mortgage banking licensing resource was originally developed by MBA, we gratefully acknowledge Haydn Richards, Partner with Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, for his legal review and updates to the compilation.
