David Smith is the head of consumer lending for Truist Financial Corporation, a purpose-driven financial services organization committed to inspiring and building better lives and communities. An accomplished leader in the financial services industry with 25 years of experience, Smith is responsible for executing our consumer loan balance sheet strategy, aligning capital to highest and best use with an increased focus on utilizing our portfolio to deepen client relationships. He leads real estate lending, unsecured and personal lending, indirect lending, mortgage servicing, consumer capital markets and portfolio performance. He is also a member of Truist’s Operating Council. Previously, Smith held leadership roles at Truist, including head of mortgage. Prior to joining Truist, Smith led businesses in mortgage lending, insurance, and title affiliated with Keller Williams. He also served as the president and CEO of CitiMortgage, a subsidiary of Citibank. While at Citigroup, Smith previously held a variety of roles including chief operating officer of retail banking and mortgage with Citibank, preceded by a variety of roles in CitiMortgage in originations, servicing and supporting functions. Committed to empowering clients, teammates and communities, Smith blends his passion for client care and business expertise to execute on Truist’s purpose, mission and values, and believes in the importance of community engagement and investing in the future. He serves as an advisor for Labeled and Loved, a Texas-based nonprofit organization that supports families with disabilities by providing educational resources for caretakers. Additionally, he is active in the Housing Policy Council as well as the Mortgage Bankers Association. Smith holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah and an MBA from the University of Colorado Denver.
