WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 6, 2025) — MBA's President and CEO Bob Broeksmit, CMB, released the following statement after the Senate Banking Committee’s votes to recommend the confirmations of William Pulte to serve as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) and Jonathan McKernan to serve as Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB):
“We appreciate the importance being placed on William Pulte’s and Jonathan McKernan’s nominations to lead the FHFA and CFPB, respectively, and urge Senate leadership to schedule floor votes on their confirmations as soon as possible.
“If confirmed, William Pulte will be a strong advocate of responsible access to mortgage credit for rental housing and for homeowners. He will also play a pivotal role – along with Congress and the Treasury Department – should there be a concerted effort to end the conservatorships of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which must be done in a way that avoids market disruption or increased costs for borrowers.
“MBA believes Jonathan McKernan is a strong choice to lead the CFPB’s new direction. We look forward to working with him, if confirmed, and his staff to ensure that the agency operates transparently, ends regulation through enforcement, and works to reduce the regulatory burden on lenders, allowing them to pass savings along to consumers.”
