DENVER (October 27, 2024) – The Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) Society today presented former President and CEO David H. Stevens, CMB, with its E. Michael Rosser, CMB, MBA Education Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was given posthumously at the Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) 2024 Annual Convention & Expo

“Dave was a passionate and tireless advocate for our industry both in Washington, D.C., as well as for everyone who has ever worked in real estate finance,” said Bob Niemi, 2024/2025 CMB Society Chair. “With a keen sense of humor and a true caring for others, Dave celebrated the importance of the CMB designation and always took the time to speak to new graduates on how he could assist them in their professional journey. He had a positive impact on countless professionals and will forever be remembered for his service to our industry.”

During Stevens’ tenure as MBA President and CEO, he was instrumental in rebuilding the association and leading the industry out of the 2008 housing crisis and Great Recession. Additionally, under Stevens’ leadership, he, his wife Mary, and MBA member Dan Arrigoni launched the MBA Opens Doors Foundation with the mission of helping keep families with critically ill or injured children in their homes while their child was in treatment. Opens Doors has become the real estate finance industry's charity of choice, connecting what people and organizations do professionally with the passion and commitment of thousands of people in the industry.

Stevens’ mortgage banking career spanned the course of four decades. He served as MBA President and CEO from 2011 until 2018. Following his retirement from MBA, he was the CEO of Mountain Lake Consulting, Inc., a financial services consulting firm focused on real estate finance. Prior to that, he was appointed as Federal Housing Administration Commissioner under the Obama administration. Before that, Stevens held leadership roles at Freddie Mac, Wells Fargo, and Long & Foster, following his 15 years at World Savings where he started his career.

The E. Michael Rosser, CMB, MBA Education Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an individual who has shown outstanding service to the Association, Certified Mortgage Bankers Society, and the real estate finance industry.
