RC_RC_GO_408.1 Understanding Data Security for Compliance Professionals

Keeping customer and business data secure is a necessity for business and compliance reasons. Mortgage lenders depend on a vast array of systems and technology to support the end-to-end lending process, and the trend toward online origination continues to grow. At the same time, consumer privacy and data protection legislation and litigation are expanding. In order to be effective in helping their companies manage risk today, compliance professionals need more than knowledge of the applicable laws and regulations: they need to understand the fundamentals of information security programs.

The Understanding Data Security for Compliance Professionals course gives compliance professionals more tools to understand and manage risk and to be a knowledgeable voice at the table in conversations with IT professionals and management. This course presents the basic components of an information security program and provides an overview of laws and regulations affecting data security and consumer privacy. The course begins with a discussion of the importance of a data security programs, continues with a survey of applicable laws, and then presents first priority cybersecurity practices. These include risk assessment to identify risk; steps to manage employee risk; securing software and data access; and securing hardware and physical access. After discussing each of these areas, the course concludes with a discussion of overall measures that should be considered to ensure business processes and data are secure.
