Issues of health and safety can be particularly detrimental, since they can force a family to move to a safer location and default on the mortgage.

Water-related issues, which are usually fairly easy to identify, are covered first. Then some health and safety dangers which are not as easily identifiable, including asbestos, lead, mold, and radon, are addressed.
