About the Event

Event Address:  1919 M Street, Washington DC 20036, Time:  8:30 AM - 4 PM July 22

MBA is offering a one-day in-person workshop to discuss business strategies for complying with and embracing the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Fair Lending Laws and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), as they relate to residential mortgage lending.

With the potential for the new and modernized CRA rule to go into effect (pending litigation), and the challenge of limited housing inventory for low-to-moderate income borrowers, it is an opportune time to gather together the legal experts, business and data analytics consultants, and most importantly, the residential mortgage lenders responsible for compliance and program implementation.

Our hope is that this targeted and collaborative workshop will have CRA, fair lending and compliance officers at residential lending institutions not only bring their specific questions to the experts, but to share their own practical experience and suggestions for overcoming roadblocks or challenges relating to these laws.  We will accomplish this through a combination of presentations, panels and roundtable discussion breakouts.  Ultimately, the workshop will equip lenders with actionable strategies to align their mortgage lending practices with CRA and fair lending objectives.

Topics Include (subject to change):

  • Interplay between CRA, Fair Lending and HMDA
  • Provisions and Implications of the 2023 CRA Final Rule; Status of Litigation
  • Developing and Enhancing Your CRA Plan
    • Identifying Underserved Areas
    • Products
    • Outreach and Partnerships
  • Remediation Action Steps:  Short-Term and Long-Term
  • Documentation, Tracking and Reporting
  • CRA and State Laws:  Potential Impacts for Both Banks and Independent Mortgage Companies
