Introductions
Kari Hall is a partner in the Consumer Financial Services and Litigation group at Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Hall counsels financial services companies on regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters, with a focus on consumer lending and retail banking. She advises banks and non-banks on complex regulatory matters, risk management, and enforcement matters across deposits, payments, mortgage, auto lending, and open-ended credit. She has particularly deep experience advising on deposit account and card products, services, and disclosures, electronic fund transfers and other electronic transfers and payments, fair lending, fair servicing, and unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices (UDAAP). Hall advises clients regarding product development and compliance and represents clients in internal reviews and investigations, as well as examinations, investigations, and enforcement actions by the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the Federal Reserve Board (FRB), the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and state regulators.

Brendan Kelleher is Associate Director of Loan Administration at the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) where he manages MBA’s legislative and regulatory strategy for residential loan administration and works with federal housing regulators, investors, and guarantors to improve and streamline servicing requirements. Prior to joining MBA, Kelleher worked at Rocket Central as Director, Public Policy, overseeing external relations and mortgage policy advocacy. Before joining Rocket Central and MBA, he began his career at Rocket Mortgage as the FHA Servicing Product Manager managing the implementation of FHA servicing policy.

Jonathan Kolodziej is a partner at Bradley in the firm’s Banking and Financial Services practice group and is a co-leader of the firm’s CFPB team. He represents mortgage servicers in regulatory compliance, examination and enforcement matters and centers his practice around helping clients ensure that their operations are in compliance with applicable federal and state consumer financial laws, and then demonstrating compliance to regulators. In this role, Jonathan frequently helps clients assess the impact of new rules and regulations and adapt to changes in the regulatory environment. Jonathan is also an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama School of Law, where he teaches an upper level course on the laws and regulations that apply throughout the lifecycle of a mortgage loan.
Steve Sharpe is a senior attorney at the National Consumer Law Center focusing on foreclosures and mortgage lending. He represented homeowners at the Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio, LLC. and started his career in 2005 at Indiana Legal Services with a Skadden fellowship focused on representing borrowers with predatory loans. Steve is a contributing author of National Consumer Law Center’s Mortgage Servicing and Loan Modifications, Home Foreclosures, and Truth in Lending legal treatises. He is a cohort member of the Shriver Center’s Racial Justice Institute and a former Consumer Fellow with the American Bar Associates Consumer Financial Services Committee. He received his B.A. from the University of Michigan and his J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington.
Ruth Van Veldhuizen is Senior Counsel in the Office of Regulations at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Van Veldhuizen is the team lead for the CFPB’s Streamlining Mortgage Servicing for Borrowers Experiencing Payment Difficulties (Regulation X) Proposed Rule. She serves as the office staff contact for Regulation X and provides interpretive guidance on HMDA, the FCRA, and their implementing regulations. She has also worked on rulemakings and projects related to credit reporting and mortgage origination. Before joining the Office of Regulations, Van Veldhuizen worked in the CFPB’s Office of Consumer Response and Office of Supervision Policy. Prior to her government service, Ruth practiced law for several years in the private sector.
Nanci Weissgold co-chairs Alston & Bird's Financial Services & Products Group. She maintains a national regulatory compliance practice representing consumer financial products and services providers on federal, state, and agency requirements, including valuation and mortgage lending and servicing.
